I have been using Backblaze for backing up all pictures & videos for more than 5 years now. I recommend Backblaze Cloud Backup for affordable & reliable unlimited cloud backup. If you do image editing, Adobe Lightroom is my favorite. Lightroom has best photo editing capabilities even though it comes with a steeper learning curve. If you do a lot of image editing like I do, I recommend using Adobe Lightroom Classic CC via the annual Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. It has a very fast browser, great image editing and it's simple to use.

If you need a cheaper and simpler photo manager then ACDSee Photo Studio for Mac (save 60% until Nov 9) or ACDSee Pro for Windows (new version) is my preferred solution for organizing all my media. Even though these are affiliate links, I wholeheartedly recommend them.Įxcellent Lightroom and Picasa alternative. Facebook started asking me about photo location and tagging the faces…even though this information was all in the image itself.Įssentials for organizing your digital photos Here are the essential products and services I have come to rely on for many years to keep my media collection organized and safe. I have uploaded the image to Facebook and…nothing.

I have embedded image keywords (both IPTC and XMP), face recognition tags in the proper xmp location and Geotags in the proper EXIF location. This was probably done on purpose…otherwise it makes no sense. In fact it is even worse: Facebook does not read any embedded image metadata. I gave repeated the example this year after four years and the result is the same: Facebook does not read your image geotags. Note: removing EXIF information does not mean the location of a photo you post cannot be found. Here’s a good article on removing EXIF data from an iphone. If you’re using your phone, go to the app store and search for “exif” to find apps that will quickly delete the information. They are generally quicker and easier to use than a full graphics software program. If you google “batch remove exif data” you’ll be able to select an app that suits you. If you want to strip the information manually, eg before posting or emailing, you can flip the switch in your camera settings or use an online service from your browser or download software to your computer to batch delete EXIF information. The situation may change in the future as the automatic removal of EXIF data from photos by Facebook has been successfully challenged under copyright law. Twitter also do this, and Instagram to an extent, but some other social media don’t. They also strip out the IPTC information that professional photographers insert (eg on your wedding photos).

The problem is you can’t rely on social media to automatically remove location data from photos you post online.Ĭurrently Facebook automatically strips out the EXIF information (that contains location coordinates) from uploaded photos.
